Just do the things that will mean most to you. The ones that will give you the most joy. You can list them and rank them and reevaluate them whenever you want, especially when one produced way much more joy then ever expected or when one produced much less joy than you thought would be possible. Resilience, being intrepid and believing that with careful assessment, one will make best use of their time.

I just rushed to write a comment and post it and ended up posting nothing in my comment because I was rushing so much, so yes, I know I am a prisoner of time.

I think this is an excellent post especially for people who are still working and have not retired, though it is also good for people who have retired even if it might be a little problematic. Any retired person may need to make suitable adjustments.

As an older person at age 74, I am constantly reminded of how much possible time I have left and feel I need to do as much as I can in terms of writing accomplishment.

When I relax, I usually fall asleep and when I wake up, I regret having fallen asleep because I have wasted awake time and I don't know how much total time I have until my physical time clock suddenly or a little more slowly stops.

I always feel great after I have written a comment or a new Substack or have made some progress on my 2nd novel.

But the key to giving yourself time is doing things or taking it easy with things that give you joy. The Hindu concept of achieving piece of mind is to not worry so much over what you are doing, just do it and what you are most worrying about will take care of itself.

Which is what you seem to be doing in your own taking your time. It's also important to pick out what you can do or not do what gives you the most joy. But also not forgetting to do what you can to bring joy for others as that is the excellent karma that often brings joy to yourself.

Happily for me, India and excellent Bollywood films have brought me a lot of joy and kept me alive over the these past 20 years. This post is great advice especially if you can take your time with whatever gives you the most joy with the time you have been alloted or given regardless if you are young or old or in the middle.

You are correct there. I too am conscious of how much time I have left, and there is much that I want to do.

We can’t do it all, sadly
