Tramping the Dusty Roads

This Substack publication is about my travels, photography, history, and essays on past and future journeys. It contains essays on photography, historical and other musings, and essays, as well as a few essays on books I read.

I travel to many places. When I moved to China, I became interested in Indian history, and in studying unbiased versions of our history, untainted by colonialist or nationalist thoughts. You can understand the present, if you understand history. We are but layers of history.

Observations on life, thoughts on photography and the writing process. Sometimes sarcastic, at other times amusing, but always honest

I started photography years ago to correct my lifestyle. Since then, it has become one of my overriding life passions. Many know more techniques than I will ever master,, but I often think of the philosophy of photography and its intersection with life. With AI, photography is changing again, making me wonder how to define a photograph.

I will spend a lot of time in Delhi, photographing aspects of the city. I live in the city. It is now my home. It is almost impossible to define Delhi, and those who only visit the Walled City of Delhi will never understand the city. Therefore, my hometown deserves an exclusive section.

I have had many amusing, sometimes challenging travel experiences. They live in my memory, but I have no photos to remember them by. In this section, I share some of these stories: rough travels, near misse,s and many hiccups.

I have travelled to many countries but many of these journeys live in the distant past. However, I thought it's good to write and share essays about these old travels, and my encounters with people from different cultures.
